This site is intended to be a resource for both science education and research.

The site includes a searchable database containing demographic information on the Peregrine Falcon population in the midwest from 1986 until present. There are approximately 4500 records in the database. Annual project reports (1986-2006) are available as pdf documents. A brief history and summary of the midwest restoration project from its early days through 2004 is also on this site. An interactive Google map showing pair site locations throughout the midwest is available, as well as, U.S. state and Canadian provincial maps with nest site locations, along with contact information for key individuals in these areas and links to area web sites.

Over the course of the project more than 2000 blood samples have been collected. We are planning to create a genetic profile of each individual through microsatellite analysis. This will allow examination of topics ranging from population structure and gene flow to details of Peregrine matings. This genetic study is just now getting underway. Genetic profile data will be added to the searchable database as they become available. This project is a joint effort of the Department of Ecology, Evolution and Behavior, The Raptor Center, Lab Medicine and Pathology, the General Biology Program, and the Bell Museum of Natural History at the University of Minnesota.

We strongly encourage the use of the information contained in this web site, particularly information in the database, by instructors who wish to build case studies into their biology curriculum.
